Every Sunday, we feed the street dogs and cats of Masaya

Frederika and I walk our town on Sundays with bags of food and look for the animals nobody else is feeding. We've been paying for it ourselves. We'd like to do more of it, more often.

Why we do this

There are a lot of street animals here. Some belong loosely to a neighborhood and some belong to nobody. Most are hungry.

We started doing this because we kept walking past the same dogs. It's now a Sunday routine — we buy food during the week and hand it out on foot.

Right now the limit is simply what we can afford. Every dollar donated goes further here than it would in the US, and a bag of food covers more animals than you'd think.

Where the money goes

What we're raising for: food, and eventually a regular route so it isn't only Sundays.

Please read this before donating

I am an individual, not a registered charity or nonprofit. Donations are not tax-deductible. I'm a US citizen living in Nicaragua — funds are received through my US account and transferred here to buy food locally.

I'd rather tell you that plainly than have you find out later.

The long-term goal

Long term, I'd like this to happen more than one day a week — a regular route covering more of the town.
